Today I would like to share something with you, which I call my secret weapon and I use this for when I need to keep my emotions in check.
When I talk of keeping my emotions in check, these could be the following:-
I am feeling really anxious or nervous about something, for example, if I have to stand up and say something. I do have an incredible fear of public speaking.
It could be, if someone has upset me and I need to contain my feelings of anger.
It could also be, if I am feeling really sad about something and I don’t want to show somebody that I’m upset or I am about to burst into tears.
I call this thing that I do, “My Secret Weapon”. I use the word secret, as it is something that I do and nobody can see me doing it and it really works for me.
I have made a few videos and written some articles on this amazing self-help tool called EFT. EFT is short for Emotional Freedom Techniques and it works by tapping on certain meridian points on the body. Tapping on these points helps to dial down, or take the charge out of our emotions.
With EFT, we normally do tapping on points on our face, and this can look rather silly if you are in a meeting, or in a waiting room, or perhaps waiting to do a presentation. You may not want people to see you doing this funny tapping thing on your face.
There are some tapping points on the hands which you can do in secret and that’s why I call it “My secret weapon”. The best thing is that I can just do it silently and nobody knows what I am doing.
For this reason, I thought I would share this with you as it’s something that I’ve used so many times and it has really helped me. I have also shown this to a few people who were nervous to present in front of an audience. It was incredible how they stopped shaking and got up to speak with confidence.
If you take your fingers and squeeze the tip either side of your nail, next to your cuticle. You do your thumb, then move to all the fingers. You can do one hand or both. The best, is that you can just have your hands in your lap, and squeeze these points. You don’t need to say anything. It is absolutely amazing to see how it calms you down in the moment.
This is something so simple and effective, and I find myself using it often.
